Like Jonah, a Christian can be at enmity with God.  Jonah is a perfect example. He was enamored by his own pride. Yet, God dealt with Jonah as He does with all believers, not as an enemy, but as a Father (Proverbs 3:12).

Jonah was right,  The world hates God.   Yet, God loves the world (John 3:16).  God hates sin, but He loves sinners.   When the Church refuses to be enamored by carnal tendencies... Sinners will hear the relevance of Jesus Christ.  The world cannot afford a worldly Church.

Book of Jonah Chapter Four.  The Conclusion

Chapter four highlights the danger of anger.  Jonah is very resentful towards God and his gracious work of salvation.  Yet, God never gives Jonah the luxury of expressing his anger without regard for damages.  The question is:  Will we ever learn?  Jonah was like many Christians and preachers through the ages... he only grew bitter... not better.

I.  Jonah's Pride Brings Anger - vs.1-2

  • His Strong Passion of Anger - vs.1 ...and he was very angry.
  • His Strange Prayer In Anger - vs.2

He Questions God - vs.2a   ...was not this...?...
He Quarrels With God - vs.2b   ...I fled..

II.  Jonah's Pride Brings Danger - vs.3,6

  • His Foolish Request To Die - vs.3a  ...take, I beseech thee, my life...
  • His Foolishness Is Rebuked - vs.4 ...Thus said the Lord...
