Book of Romans Chapter Seven
Paul argues that the believer is no longer under law. Why then, is it NOT necessary to place ourselves under the Mosaic Law or the letter of the law? The target Paul aims for in these opening verses is not the letter of the law... but a better law.
The answer is actually quite simple. Once a sinner receives Jesus Christ as their personal Savior; The righteousness of Christ is instantly and forever imputed to the sinner. Secondly, the righteousness of Christ is imparted to the new believer. What does this mean? Lets examine verse by verse the Letter of the Law versus a Better Law.
I. The Christian & The Letter of The Law - vs. 1,3
Note: Release From The Marriage Law - 2c ...but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law..
Note: Regulation Under The Marriage Law - 3a ...so then if, while her husband liveth...
Note: Relief From The Marriage Law - 3b ...but if her husband be dead, she is free from the law...

II. The Christian & The Better Law - vs. 4,6
Note The Believers Deliverance - 6a ...But now we are delivered from the law...
Note The Believers Preference - 6b ...we...serve in newness of spirit...not in the oldness of the letter...
You see, it is not the Ten Commandments that save... it is the Tender Commander that saves. We are not led by the letter of the law, but by a better law (Hebrews 8).
Sincerely, Dr. Arthur Belanger
